Wendeng has a total area of 1615 square kilometer, has jurisdiction over 12 towns, 3 sub-district office, tow provincial level economic development zones, 763 villages, 675,000 permanent residents and 582,000 household residents.
　　Wendeng has a long history and got its name from Emperor Qingshihuang “Summoning Men of Letters to Climb the Mountain”. In 568 A.D., Wenden county was set up; in 1988 it changed county into city. It has over 1400 years’ history since establishment and is one of the few thousand-year ancient counties. Wendeng has rich culture and has the reputation of Wendengxue. In Spring and Autumn Period, is was called hometown of scholars. Since Sui and Tang dynasties, more than 100 people passed the imperial tests. In 1937, the uprising of Tianfu mountain fired the first shot against Japanese invaders. It is the birthplace of China Taoism Quanzhen sect, it is the national intangible cultural heritage.

Weihai International airport is located in Wendeng and now it has flights to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Seoul. Wendeng is known for beautiful scenery, 156km golden coastline, 5 high quality hot springs, national forest park Kunyu mountain, provincial level forest park Tianfu mountain, Scared Taoism mountain Shengjing mountain, Hometown of Drangon King Li Huilong mountain, reputed to be the land of Chinese longevity and city of Hot Springs, Chinese most beautiful habitat, China best leisure city, international coastal leisure city.
　　Recent years, Wendeng district took the Scientific Outlook towards Development as its theme, economic transformation means as main thread, and the improvement of economic development quality and profit as center, free the mind, seize the opportunity, endeavor to make progress, and successfully maintained the sustainable healthy development status. Industry system has been constantly improved, and now we have got auto and auto spare parts, electromechanical tools, art home textile and new material. 39 R&D centers and post doctoral work stations of provincial or even national level have been set up, created 83 famous brands over provincial level. Service sector: Tangpo Hot Spring Resort and Tianmu Hot Spring Resort became national 4A scenic areas and in terms of agricultural sector Wendeng has fur and America Ginseng industry. It has got a lot of honors such as national cultural model city, national garden city etc. In 2014, the GDP of Wendeng district has reached 68.191 billion yuan, an increase of 10.3%.
